Football Manager 2005
![]() |
As well as offering some
superb games and other goodies for this month's Quick
Quiz prizes, Sega have been good enough to send me a beta pre-launch
version of Football Manager to have a play with and so here are some of
my initial thoughts and some facts about the game. Firstly, if you're thinking of buying this game then make sure you get as much sleep as you can between now and the November 5th release date because you're sure not gonna get much kip when you get the game! |
| My
very first look at the game began at about 9.30pm, and as manager of the
mighty Burton Albion in the Conference, I set about achieving the
domination of world football. More than five hours
later I realised the time (and the fact that I had to be at work in a
few hours) and so had to drag myself away from the game and to bed. Each time I've played since it's been equally difficult to stop playing. It really is very very addictive and I can see me getting hundreds and hundreds of hours of entertainment out of the game over coming months. |
|
| The game itself is huge...... Want to try your hand at managing an International team? No problem, there are 298 of them (including first teams, under 21's and u19's). Prefer a club team? Well, you can choose from an amazing 2351 league teams from any of 245 league divisions across 51 countries. And the clubs even have reserve teams and youth teams in the game too! | ![]() |

The amount of
stats you get on each individual player is equally impressive.
Over 40 stats for each of the 200,000 players in the game allowing you
to find exactly the type of player you need to make your perfect team. Your Assistant Manager also plays a vital role in giving you ongoing reports about your team's strengths and weaknesses. |
| Other game features that I certainly think deserve a mention here include 'Managers Mind Games' where you can start a bit of mud-slinging with your opposite number in another club and the media interaction where you have to face the press when you've just been thrashed six - nil. What you say to either the press or to another manager can certainly affect your team's performance in their next games. Also, the match screen gives a great dual display mode. You can watch Wayne Rooney dribbling round the opposition on one side of the screen while the match stats and a commentary of the game appear on the other side. You can even display the scores from all the other games taking place at the same time along with scorers, injuries and red & yellow cards ...... just like Sky Sports! All in all I think this is a superb game and one that will lose me endless hours that I should really spend working or sleeping ....... but I really don't care ....... as long as I can get my team to the top of The Premiership!! |
