The Villa goalkeeper concedes a bizarre own goal, as, despite inconclusive video footage, he is deemed to have made contact as he attempted to kick a throw-in clear of his goal. Arsenal equal Chesterfield’s 1931 record of scoring in 46 consecutive League games with victory over Bolton, Henry scores for as third game in a row, that keeps The Gunners top, but the Frenchman fails with a spot-kick. Liverpool end West Brom’s three-game winning sequence with victory that takes them second, Michael Owen also misses a penalty. Spurs drop to third after defeat by Manchester United, who climb to seventh. West Ham stay bottom after a draw with Manchester City. Sunderland are just one place higher after losing to Newcastle. Southampton complete the basement trio after their draw with Charlton pulls them into the drop zone. The all-time record is exclusively Arsenal’s after their win over Leeds is The Gunners 47th consecutive scoring game, and they retain pole position. Michael Owen’s first hat-trick of the campaign beats Manchester City and takes Liverpool second. Middlesbrough leap three places, to third, after they beat Spurs. Manchester United are closing on the top three after victory over Charlton takes them fourth and plunges The Addicks to 19th.
