| 1999 Cups and awards Worthington League Cup Tottenham Hotspur 1 Leicester City 0 Wembley served up another disappointing League Cup Final, the first under new sponsorship, and Spurs’ victory was the first trophy won under new manager George Graham. Justin Edinburgh was sent off just past the hour mark but Leicester failed to make their numerical advantage pay and the game looked to be heading for extra-time for the second successive year. But Allan Nielsen threw himself full-length to head home the winner in stoppage time. FA Cup Final Manchester United 2 Newcastle United 0 Manchester United skipper Roy Keane limped out of the final after just nine minutes but his replacement Teddy Sheringham turned the game when he scored two minutes after coming on, after being set-up by Paul Scholes, to become only the sixth scoring substitute in an FA Cup Final. Newcastle tried hard to get back into the game with a second-half revival from the start of the second half but it was Fergie’s team that clinched the game. The same two players who were involved in the opening goal swapped roles and Sheringham set up Scholes for the clincher for United to clinch their second ‘double’ and stage two of their historic ‘treble’ as they added the European Cup four days later.
